Came here for lunch and ordered my usual Special Rava Masala Dosa with potatoes and onions. My husband ordered the 2 foot long dosa with spring veggies. The waiter took our order and I felt that he probably misunderstood saying there are 2 dosas in his order, thinking we were going to share it. My order arrived but it was accompanied with an idli (white spongy cake) and wada (fried donut like appetizer). Surprised because I did not order these 2 items and thought maybe it was for my husband. He said no, his order was coming. After 5 minutes, he got up to check on his order. As I expected, the waiter misunderstood and only took my order instead. They made his order quickly and it finally came with 2 dosas. His dosa was supposed to be like 2 feet long but they cut it in half to fit the plate. I should've taken a pic of his order but he hates that. It was way too much for him, we had to pack the leftovers to go. I also discovered that you can order an extra crispy plain dosa with the potatoes and onions on the side as we heard it from the next table's order. I'll do that next time. It was still a nice lunch to enjoy today.

Very simple and casual spot, serving you some classic south indian dishes. So much options to choose from! We got the udupi combo (comes with dosa, uthappam, idly, medhu vada) and thali. Everything tasted amazing, and we were all so full from this meal. The price point for everything is in the affordable range, and it's definitely worth the money for what you get.

As a South Indian myself, it can't get any better. Although I don't eat a lot of Indian food outside, udupi is an exception for my dosa fix. The consistency of this place is hard to beat. Love love love the rava dosa, sambhar vada, chole bhatura ( although its a very south Indian chole ifyyk), veg kurma. Can't go wrong with anything south Indian here. Great service. People are always very friendly here and very casual ambiance. Great for conversations ( over some hot filter coffee).

I always get so anxious whenever I go to an Indian restaurant because I don't know the names of many dishes. Luckily the staff at Udupi was a great help. We came in on a Tuesday at 5pm and was seated right away. They have 3 different types of dosas. We ordered the Thali and the Special Rava Masala Dosa. Both dishes came out in 10 minutes. So quick. I was shocked at the portions. It was huge and very filling. The Rava Masala Dosa had a ton of spiced potatoes. I do wish they offer other fillings though. The 3 different sauces were all great. I'm very indecisive so I love that I could dip it in all 3 of them and I love the crispiness of the dosa. The vegetable soup was also very tasty. The Thali had an assortment of mini vegetarian dishes containing potatoes, chickpeas, rice, beets and beanThe puffed bread I thought was a bit too thin and a bit oily. However it also came with a more crispier cracker type thing which held up better.

So delicious! I tried the Dosa and Thali and both were yum. The spice levels were fire lol. We came at 9pm and staff were so kind to accommodate us since it was their closing time. Vibe is casual/cafe.

Love the dosas here! We came here as a party of 5 on a Friday night and there was ample seating. Tried the Mysore Masala dosa, Masala dosa, and Rava dosa (#37). I found the Mysore masala dosa a bit spicy and the quantity of potato seemed inconsistent between dosas but the dosa itself tasted great. I especially loved the different chutneys that tasted unique compared to to other South Indian restaurants I've tried in South Bay. Portions were good for the price! Note that they do have a 15% gratuity for groups of 5+ and 3% credit card fee.

Great place for lunch with friends! Lots of people going in and out and the tables are a little crowded, but super fast service. Menu is extensive in terms of dosa and love the chutneys/sambar that come with the dosa. This one (I think 37) was recommended as "crispy" but I think they'd all be crispy with the paper thing one as the crispiest. Would come back.

Udupi palace was the first place I found after moving that scratched my itch of Indian food when I was feeling home sick here in the Bay Area. Service here is very friendly , and extremely efficient. During my visit last week my food came out within minutes of ordering and the quality of the food was perfect . I generally opt for dosas from here - they've definitely nailed their dosa making down and the chutneys provided are extremely solid. I recently tried their Chana bathura and it was really REALLY good... I will be coming back here for it more often for sure Appetizers and snacks are also available - the samosa chaat is definitely a stand out and the chai is solid. My only negative comment is that I wouldn't recommend the idly here ... it just misses the mark from a shape/ taste/ texture perspective. If you haven't had Idly before , do not try it here - there are better places in the Bay Area for that. All in all, Udupi Palace an extremely solid option for trying out South Indian food in SF. Definitely pop in if you find yourself on Valencia street
